Plan it, record it, edit it.

Seven short videos, about a minute each, each with its own presenter. Watch them in order, or jump to the one you need.

Lesson 1 · with Cat

Plan what you'll show

Optional, and worth it for anything longer than a minute.

  1. On Home, under Record your screen, click Plan it first.
  2. Type what you'll show, one thing per line. Click the magnifier on the moments that should zoom in.
  3. Click Rehearse. Nothing is recorded. Do each item, then press ⇧⌘→.
  4. End the rehearsal to see the total time, each item's time, and where the zooms go.

Prefer to read word for word? Choose “Write it word for word instead” and the Teleprompter follows your voice.

Lesson 2 · with Fox

Record with the checklist beside you

  1. From the plan, choose Screen, Window or Area. A countdown checks your microphone first.
  2. The checklist sits beside you and is never in the video. Do each item, then press ⇧⌘→ (⇧⌘← undoes).
  3. For a zoom you didn't plan, press ⇧⌘1 where the pointer is.
  4. Press stop when you're done. It counts the item you're on as done, and opens the editor.

The yellow box that flashes shows what a zoom will show. It isn't recorded.

Lesson 3 · with Owl

Edit it into something you'd share

  1. Each checklist item is a chapter, and the zooms you asked for are in.
  2. Prefer more or fewer zooms? Style → Zoom → Automatic zooms remakes them from what you did: Often (most clicks and typing), Fewer (calmer), Marks (only your ⇧⌘1 and 🔍 items) or Off. Nothing is lost by switching.
  3. Want one more? Add → Zoom puts one at the playhead. Drag it on the timeline to move or trim it, and drag the box in its settings to choose what it shows. Zooms you add or change are kept when you switch the setting.
  4. Click Polish to cut the ums and long pauses and write captions.
  5. Edit the transcript, and the video follows.
  6. Point things out from Add: text, a lower third, numbered steps, arrows, boxes, blur over anything private, a highlight that dims the rest, a magnifier, title cards and more, all at the playhead.
  7. Pick a background and a frame, then Export, landscape or vertical.

Like the look? Save it as a style, and choose it for new recordings.

Lesson 4 · with Pup

Point things out

Everything is in the Add menu, and goes in at the playhead.

  1. Blur anything private: an email, a name, a key. It follows zooms.
  2. Step Label for walkthroughs: steps number themselves 1, 2, 3. Also Text, Lower Third, Title and Callout.
  3. Arrow, Box and Sketch stick to the recording, so they move with it when it zooms.
  4. Highlight dims everything except one area. Magnifier enlarges what's under the pointer.
  5. Intro Title, Title Card and Outro for the start, middle and end; Freeze Frame holds a moment.

Each one is on the timeline: drag to move it, drag its edges to trim it. There's more in Add too: pictures and logos on top, sound effects, music and camera moves.

Lesson 5 · with Panda

Trim and tidy

  1. Open Script: every word you said, with the video lined up underneath.
  2. Select words and delete them, and the video cuts with them.
  3. Under Clean up, Shorten long pauses, Speed up long typing, and Cut filler words.
  4. Split at the playhead and add a transition between the parts.

Changed your mind? ⌘Z. Nothing is ever lost: cut words can be shown again and restored.

Lesson 6 · with Octo

Captions

  1. Style → Captions → Show captions. They come from what you said.
  2. Choose top or bottom, the size, the colours, all capitals, and how each one comes on.
  3. A word misheard? Double-click it in the transcript and type the fix.
  4. The transcript's ⋯ menu exports captions as a file (.srt, .vtt) or translates them.

Lesson 7 · with Rocket

Export and share

  1. Pick the shape: landscape, or vertical for phones, which follows the action for you.
  2. Click Export video, then choose the size and format. It can also make a Final Cut Pro project.
  3. Like the look? At the end of the Style list, Save Style…, and choose it for new recordings.

Optional · with Bulb

Set up AI

Recording, editing, captions and characters need none of this. AI is for Autopilot, the Assistant and AI voices, and it uses your own accounts.

  1. Open Settings → Accounts.
  2. Easiest: OpenRouter → Connect… Sign in in your browser and the key comes back by itself. Add credit there; you pay as you go, usually well under a dollar a video.
  3. Already pay for Claude or ChatGPT? Claude Code or Codex uses that subscription: Sign In… opens Terminal with their own sign-in. The editor's Assistant needs one of these.
  4. Or paste an Anthropic key. For voices: Gemini through OpenRouter, a Gemini or ElevenLabs key, or your Mac's own voice.
  5. Use Claude, Codex or Cursor yourself? Connect them under Agents that edit for you.

Your video, screen and camera never leave your Mac; keys are kept in your Keychain. During the beta, Pro's AI features are free.

Pro · with Ghost

Autopilot: a demo from a link

Needs AI set up first (above), and Chrome.

  1. Open Autopilot (or start on Home under Make it with Autopilot) and say who the video is for, in a sentence.
  2. Add the link to your site or app. Localhost works too.
  3. Click Write the Plan: it explores the page, finds the buttons, and writes every line.
  4. Read it through and change any line you like, then Make the Video. It voices the script, clicks through your site in a hidden browser, and records it all.
  5. It opens in the editor like any recording. Any step that might not have worked is listed at the top, to check.
